With increased webshop sales all over the world Maistic have been looking for truly sustainable box filling. We found it.
Maistic is distributor of the 100% absolutely natural and CO2 friendly box filling from the company Dansk Tang (Danish Seeweed).
The filling is seagrass – nothing else. Seagrass (Zostera Marina) is a type of seaplant that you might know from the beach where waves lift it ashore resulting in bad smell. It’s actually this exact place and product we offer you: Coast collected seagrass. Not grown. Not harvested. Not manufactured or added anything. It’s actually nature’s own leftovers.
While fresh the seagrass is carefully collected very shortly after it has come to shore. After short transport it’s dried, depending on the season and weather either outside by the sun or indoors from left over energy from neighboring companies. In a simple process it’s compressed and packed in large boxes from sustainably sourced paper.

What will probably surprise you is the wonderful smell – a little like freshly cut hay, when you open the box. The seagrass crackles a bit when touched. It’s strong and not fragile in use – the company behind it use it for sending seaweed beer in glass bottles.
Most can actually be reused, if needed. Or put in the garden for perfect compost. Or even used for filling pillows and mattresses and insulation. It’s allergy friendly and resistant to mold.
By using natures own ‘waste’, packing the box filling as climate friendly as possible and using a plant that grabs more CO2 than trees, you can hardly have a more sustainable box filling. A box contains 6-7 kg. With normal use a box is equivalent to 1,1-1,3 m³. PS: Use as many times and possible – and when done, your garden will love the box filling as natural fertilizer. There is no doubt, seagrass filling is a good story towards endusers and clients, truly climate friendly, organic recyclable – and beautiful as well.
